Ugandan poultry company, aiming to reach a production capacity of 8-10 million chicks per annum.
AgDevCo’s debt investment into Uzima Uganda provides the funding required for the expansion of operations in Uganda including production of day-old chicks for local smallholder farmers. To achieve this, Uzima is investing in setting and stocking up a new farm at Buruli, expanding its hatchery capacity and increasing its feed production volume. This is expected to expand Uzima’s production capacity to 8-10 million birds a year over a 5-year period.
AgDevCo has supported Uzima Uganda with TA for a gender value chain assessment, district training to train primarily agents and smallholder farmers, expansion of the brooding unit network by partnering with FINCA, as well as poultry nutrition training for agents and smallholder farmers. Further TA support was provided to the business for capacity building and the development and implementation of good practice aligned Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) in line with AgDevCo’s Responsible Business Principles (RBPs) to work towards alignment with the IFC Performance Standards.
