Chicken rearing, slaughter and processing facility, supplying the local economy at affordable prices.
AgDevCo has helped this female-owned enterprise to improve the supply of high-quality chicken to the local economy at affordable prices. Through live sales off-take with a major Tanzanian processor, as well as through local networks of agents and outlet stores, Kingchick is boosting the local consumption of poultry meat. AgDevCo's investment has also been used to develop a food safety certified processing facility for poultry slaughtering and dressing.
Consumption of high-quality protein in Tanzania remains significantly below global and African standards. There is a growing local demand for higher-quality poultry meat but prices are often too high owing to lack of supply. Kingchick's success to date is already demonstrating the benefits of broiler chicken rearing to local small-scale farmers, further growing the supply of affordable poultry to the market.
